Inpatient vs Outpatient Treatment – Which is right for you?

Before entering addiction treatment, it is important that you understand the difference between inpatient and outpatient treatment.

Inpatient addiction treatment involves simultaneous housing and treatment at a residential rehab facility, typically for a minimum duration of 28 days. Inpatient treatment provides an environment free from the stresses and triggers of daily life in addition to round-the-clock care from a team of addiction specialists. Inpatient treatment allows clients to fully immerse themselves in the recovery process and offers the best chance of lasting recovery.

Outpatient treatment, like that provided at The Cabin Singapore, allows clients the opportunity to attend treatment while continuing to live in their own homes and maintain their normal schedules. Outpatient treatment is best suited for clients who are considered “high-functioning addicts”. These individuals do not require a supervised detox nor do their current environments pose too many obstacles to recovery. Outpatient addiction centres offer much of the same treatment provided at residential facilities without requiring clients to take leave from work or personal responsibilities.

For some of our clients, an ideal treatment strategy involves a combination of both inpatient and outpatient treatment. For these individuals, treatment will begin at one of our internationally recognised inpatient facilities and will eventually be ‘stepped down’ to continued treatment through one of our outpatient centres.

Each individual case of addiction is unique, which is why it is important to see a qualified addiction expert for a thorough assessment prior to choosing between inpatient or outpatient treatment. The Cabin Singapore offers comprehensive and confidential assessments to help determine which form of treatment is best for you.
